Parenting through the Senses Course, Cornwall UK

Everyone has sensory preferences, Parenting through the Senses is a fun course that first teaches adults and carers how to discover their own unique sensory preferences. Parents can then become sensory detectives, learning to understand their children’s behaviours and what their sensory needs are. The course helps parent become advocates for their family and child’s needs and includes ideas and ways to provide these in the home. For more details see www.sensoryproject.com.

Everyone has their own unique set of sensory preferences...

Do you tap your fingers or doodle during a long meeting? Do you find yourself longing for a walk on across a beach after being indoors all day? Does relaxing background music soothe you or make you feel irritable? Your reactions and your children’s reactions, relate to how your body needs, takes in and processes sensory input.

About Sensory Processing...

‘The senses are important, (in fact key to survival), because everything we experience from the world outside or from within our own bodies has to come into the brain through the senses. The brain has to register this sensory data before it is processed and understood. The brain is then able to respond to the sensory information, this is typically through movement and interaction with the environment and others.’ (Smith 2002)
